How we started

Founded in 2008

Simple Street Defence was founded January 13th 2008. by Phil Whitehead and Lee Jones, Phil had become completely disillusioned by what was being taught and on offer and decided it was about time something more practical was taught, so he left the club he was in at Brown belt to follow his dream of running his own club.

Phil was also severely bullied at high school and has a passion to stop it happening to anyone that he teaches.

We believe self defence can be done by anyone. We don’t rely on clothing to throw with, and we leave out kata and pattern drills, line work and crescent step attacks. We only teach what we believe is real.

The F-8 system

Reasonable force

The system taught is F-8. created by Phil and It’s easy to understand and to get into, it’s also recognised by the ASMAA-SDF (All Stars Martial Arts Association/ Self Defence Federation).

Everything taught is “reasonable force”, which means a student is less likely to get in trouble using it. There’s no punching or high kicks during defence. Techniques are pressure-tested and practical.

The System is made up of
Ju-jutsu/ brazilian ju-jitsu (t.j.k)
M.E.M.E (minimum Effort Maximum Effect)
aiki ju-jitsu (spirit combat)
Real Combat System (R.C.S)
