F-8 System

F-8 Is the building block of ALL the self defence that is taught
f-8 is simply just 8 words beginning with f

fall, force, fight, floor, free, flow, fact, fit

FALL

“Breakfalling” teaches students how to land safely and includes falling and rolling methods, this means that they can throw each other around at speed and if they fall in real life then hopefully they will land more comfortably.

FORCE

Force is the structure of front defences and students
learn different entrances for many throws or takedowns.

The entrances are;

Front – face to face, Knee – starts from a knee to the body, Behind – from turning the attacker,  Under – going under a flurry attack to grab legs/ waist, Side – defending a jab or straight punch

FIGHT

Fight is our way of “pressure testing” the training techniques, these include scenario training, “reality check” which is random attack training and methods like that.

FLOOR

Floor is ground defences, these include protecting themselves from kick and stamps, mount punching and strangle type attacks, also includes ground movements.

FREE

Free which is short for “freedom” is to do with escapes and defences from various grabs, incuding bear hugs, head chancery and strangles

FLOW

Flow is to do with the art of “balance disruption” and teaches students how to break the balance of the attacker and makes throws and takedowns easier.

FACT

This means students get to understand the reasons why they should do or not do certain things, e.g. “why wouldn’t you step over an attacker” answer “because they could grab you/ trip you up”

FIT

Fitness comes from many ways and it means that students can train harder because of having a higher endurance, last longer if being attacked and most importly be able to run away

FUN

Not really part of F-8 but is a really important part of the club for the younger ones, these include, creative games, “fight nights”, ground fighting, fun weeks and many ways to create enjoyment while training with SSD
